Paul Spicer
Paul Spicer is a veteran of eleven NFL seasons – recently reaching the pinnacle of his career earning a Super Bowl ring during the 2010 XLIV Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints. As a recognized leader throughout his career both on and off the field, “Spice” is also known for his versatility, rugged, workman-like nature and determination that has leveraged him to attain career achievements. Spicer is a powerful defensive end and has enjoyed success earning recognition as the 2007 AFC Defensive Player of the Week, Named by USA Today as All-Joe team for two consecutive years 2005-2006; the Ed Block Courage Award, he has tallied 349 tackles (241 solo) and 28.5 sacks. He played the last nine years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and prior to signing with Jacksonville in 2000, Spicer split the 1999 season between the Detroit Lions’ active roster and practice squad after playing with the Saskatchewan Rough Riders of the CFL in 1998. He first entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Seattle Seahawks in 1998.
In college, Paul played his final two years (1996-97) at Saginaw Valley State…Set a school record with 21.5 sacks as a senior and named Conference Player of the Year…Transferred from College of DuPage, where he was a JUCO All-America linebacker in 1995 and was inducted in 2007, as an honoree in the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame.
Paul is married to Shariffa, Executive Director of Guardian Catholic Schools, and has four children. Spicer is a spiritually-centered role model in that he actively engages in an array of community involved activities whose sole purpose is strengthening the Jacksonville community in areas of rebuilding communities, efforts surrounding alleviating disparities affecting children, maximizing education efforts, tackling issues affecting the homeless, and leading numerous fundraisers…Has also hosted a radio show for 1010XL and was a two year co-host of the End Zone Show on WJXT Channel 4, he was featured in a movie called The Year of Getting to Know Us, which was filmed in Jacksonville.
In his spare time, Paul Spicer enjoys tennis, golf, paintball, zip lining, poker, and training along side of his wife for an upcoming Marathon.
