Bruce Jones

Pastor of Southside United Methodist Church

 

Although he was born in Macon, Georgia, Bruce Jones grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where his family settled after his father retired from the military. He was graduated from North East High School in 1975 and attended New College in Sarasota, Florida. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies in 1978.

 

Following college, Bruce worked in the restaurant industry until he – finally – responded to a call to ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church.  He received a Masters of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in 1983. In 1992, he received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Candler. In 1981 Bruce was ordained as a deacon in the Florida Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. 

 

In 1985, he was ordained as an elder and granted “Full Connection.” While serving as an associate pastor in Ft. Pierce, Florida, Bruce met his wife Haley. They were married in 1984. Since then, Bruce has pastored churches in Dunnellon, Fernandina Beach, and Jacksonville.  Currently, he serves as the pastor of Southside United Methodist Church.

 

Bruce and Haley have been married twenty seven years and have two children: Sydney (a student at the University of Florida) and Spencer (a student at Landon Middle School). He enjoys spending time with his family and taking walks with his camera.
